Key free locks for the home.

In the last decade I have seen a massive growth in cylinders with kite-mark star ratings. These anti-snap kite-marked 1,2 and 3 star cylinders are really helping in securing peoples homes but in recent years we have started to fit more and more key free insurance approved locks for the home. The market is full of different types of key-free options these days. You’re able to open your front door by fob, card, code or even fingerprint! I myself have a key free lock on my front door. Its great pulling up on the driveway, the kids jumping out of the car and you press the button and they can walk straight in the front door. I’ve also got the lock synced with my home alarm so no need to rush in and deactivate the alarm. These locks are tested to the highest standards and are covered on your home insurance. There are models that can be fitted to wooden, composite and UPVC doors.  Other great features with these locks are that you can issue out a code, card etc to somebody and if you no longer want them to access your property you can delete it from the system. Meaning they will no longer be able to access your property.   I had one customer who had an apartment that he let out on short-term lets, weekends etc. He was able to email his new guest a welcome email with the code to the apartment for then to access the property and then he could delete the code once his guest departs. Meaning the owner no longer had...

ARE THE LOCKS ON YOUR MANAGED PROPERTIES PUTTING YOUR TENANTS IN DANGER?

Fire safety in apartments has been in the news a lot recently. GPM Locks would like to help you keep your tenants safe. All landlords have legal obligations as regards fire safety At the very least you should ensure that there is an adequate means of escape in case of fire, and landlords of shared and Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) properties will have additional obligations, both under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (2005) , Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 and the Housing Act 2004. Legislation creates a legal entity known as the “responsible person”. So if you are the owner, manager, agent or even own a flat within a block ‘you will need to check’ if YOU are the responsible person.   If a person has a contractual or tenancy obligation for the maintenance, repair of safety of a premises they can be regarded as a person in control of the premises and therefore acquire responsibility relating to the extent of their control. It has to be understood that the ‘responsible person’ has an absolute duty to comply with legislation. The responsible person has to ‘get on with it’ without waiting for a prompt or direction from the enforcing authority. As in health and safety legislation, ignorance will be no defence for non-compliance.   Ensure that all outside doors can be easily opened at all times from the inside. If you fit a mortise lock, make sure you install one with a thumb turn which can open from the inside. Having a spare key by the door is less satisfactory as it can get...

Hotel lock installation With Cisa (Allegion)

Early this year GPM Locks and Allegion started to discuss the possibilities of working together to install there hospitality lock range. Allegion are a USA based international company that manufacture and sell the Cisa brand of hospitality locks.   GPM Locks had helped Allegion with an install a couple of years ago in a hotel in London and we were happy to discuss possible further work with Allegion again in 2017.   It does seem that this year has started with a bang. We are only mid-way through February and GPM Locks Ltd have completed two hotel jobs for Allegion with the possibilities of more hotels later in the year.   The first hotel this year was the Old Hall Hotel and Health Club in Caister On Sea (Norfolk) This was a lovely little hotel and we enjoyed fitting the 20 Cisa eSIGNO locks to the bedroom doors and the Brass eSIGNO handles looked great on the period looking doors.   After a short break it was then off to one of Southampton’s oldest hotels. The Star Hotel Southampton is a former coaching Inn dating back the 1800. In three and a half days GPM Locks fitted 51 locks to the Star Hotel. We are happy to say the staff and management are over the moon with the completed project.   With more hotel lock installation jobs looking likely across the UK GPM Locks are looking forward to working with Allegion again very soon.         Wish to discuss the possibility of upgrading your hotel locks? Marketing and growing a locksmith business

Marketing and growing a locksmiths business I started the planning and organising of GPM locksmiths over nine years ago and we’ve been operating for about 8 1/2 years. It’s a great feeling making something from nothing. When we launched 8 1/2 years ago the aim was to get one or two jobs a week! I would carry on working in property maintenance and slowly build up the locksmiths side. Very soon after launching I had to give up the property maintenance and concentrate purely on the locksmiths work. We did this through different means of marketing some more useful than others. In The Beginning It was very important to make sure we had the basic ground work done before even operating. For example a website with a logo is a great start. On our launch day we started with Google ad words. Google ad words is a great way of getting instant attention from possible clients. The downside of ad words is that it is very expensive. In fact for locksmiths it is one of the most expensive forms of marketing you can pay. Anything from £3 to £10 a click meaning every single time someone clicks on your ad on Google you’ll be charged the relevant amount. The Good and The Bad Over the years I have fine-tuned what is good and what is bad marketing spending huge sums of money on the directories was a mistake. Having a small affordable ad would be a good place to start. Some people may say marketing a small business is the same no matter what type of business especially if it’s...

Working with the Police Its been almost two years  since GPM Locks began working with the Police in helping them to secure properties affected by brake ins and also where the police have had to force entry into properties on welfare checks or warrants. We have been working closely with Rapid Secure, who holds the contract with many police authority with in the UK. GPM Locksmiths get calls 24/7 and because we need to respond within the hour, we need to be ready! When we turn up to the scene we never know what we may find. The area is often classed as a crime scene and we have to tread carefully as to not disturb anything.   The police have to remain on site till we have secured the entry point. It is imperative that  we get on site and secure up asap therefore allowing the police officer  to leave the site and continue with their shift. We have now completed hundreds of jobs for the Police and hope to continue long into the future.    In conclusion GPM Locksmiths are who you need to call for emergency securing of your property   For more information about any of the services GPM Locks has to offer call 0808 16 600 50 We offer: Free home security checks Lock changes Lock Repairs Alarms Double Glazing...
